Getting Started at Terra

At Terra, we know every young parent’s experience is unique, so we strive to meet your individual needs.

Our Starting Point worker, will connect you with valuable resources, help you through the first steps and make sure you receive the best information and support throughout your journey. Is housing a major concern for you? They can tell you about Terra’s housing partnerships. Are you looking to complete your high school education? They can tell you about Braemar School. Are you interested in attending pre-natal classes? They can help you register.

Our Starting Point worker will also connect you with one of our Family Outreach workers. Your outreach worker will meet you regularly at your home, at school or in the community, and will help you reach your goals. Sometimes there’s a waiting period until you can connect with an outreach worker, so the Starting Point worker is available to answer calls and meet with you. You’ll always have someone to talk to and rely on.

Starting Point is located at Terra’s west end office (10320 – 146 Street). Young moms, young dads, family members and staff from community organizations can make an appointment to learn about our programs and services.

Some things our Starting Point worker can do for you:
  • Listen to your concerns and answer questions
  • Help you register for Terra’s programs and services including mental health, education, housing, groups and programs and more
  • Connect you with community resources (health care centres, clinics, food bank, etc.)
  • Accompany you to meetings and appointments
  • Help you access free children’s clothing, diapers and baby essentials in our Clothes Closet

If you are a young parent or are about to become one, we encourage you to call  780-428-3772.
