For nearly two decades, Promising Futures has been a cornerstone event for Terra, bringing together our community of support to raise vital funds for teen parent families. This year’s event, held on May 8th at the Royal Glenora Club, continued that tradition with a warm and vibrant Happy Hour gathering designed to inspire and connect.

We welcomed our guests into a space filled with the spirit of hope and possibility. With an intentionally rapid-fire program, the evening showcased the strength, talent, and resilience of the young families we walk alongside every day.

We were honoured to feature two heartfelt performances by Demaris, one of our talented participants. She opened the formal program with an original poem, a beautiful expression of love and hope for her daughter’s future. Later in the evening, she brought the room to a quiet hush with her powerful rendition of a Brandi Carlile song, her voice echoing the courage and emotion behind every young parent’s journey.

The evening also offered a window into the impact of Terra’s programs through the voices of those who know us best. A current participant shared how the guidance and care of our Early Childhood Educators not only supports her child’s development but has also shaped her own confidence and growth as a parent.

In a full-circle moment, we also welcomed back a Terra alum who first spoke at our 2014 Promising Futures event. Now thriving in her adult life, her return served as a moving reminder of the long-term impact of community support and how the seeds planted at Terra continue to grow for years to come.

Funds raised through Promising Futures ensure that Terra can remain responsive and innovative in meeting the evolving needs of teen parent families. From mental health supports to basic needs assistance to parenting education, every contribution helps us build brighter futures—together.

A Happy Hour to Change Lives – “Children are at the heart of our work” 

Terra was founded in 1971 based in part by the need for accessible childcare for young moms completing their high school education. As a guest of Promising Futures, you will see how 53 years later, programs and services offered to participant families continue to be centered around our youngest community members. Programs, services and partnerships are multigenerational, fostering nurturing environments for themselves and their children. Every child deserves a strong foundation, a safe environment and the opportunity to realize their potential, no matter their circumstances. Children and youth are our future, prioritizing their well-being, education, and development is essential for building a better society.
