Terra’s Clothes Closets run entirely on community donations and are an important resource for our young families, who are often on limited budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clothes Closet volunteers are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Terra’s Clothes Closets, including but not limited to:

  • Engage with Terra participants who access the Clothes Closet and ensure their experience is welcoming and positive while maintaining Clothes Closet processes and procedures.
  • Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator on a regular basis to provide updates on operations, including any challenges or supplies needed to carry out duties.
  • Ensure all items are organized and displayed in a visually appealing manner.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and communicate specific items needed to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Receive donations and complete gift-in-kind donation forms as needed.
  • Sort and organize all donations that are received and identify items that are not suitable.
  • Re-package unsuitable items for pick-up by community organizations and dispose of items deemed as garbage.
  • Wash, dry and iron any clothing as required.
  • Track all volunteer hours and submit to the Volunteer Coordinator on a monthly basis.
  • Other duties as required.
Role Requirements

Terra works with a unique population and volunteers should understand that the requirements of this role will change daily based on Clothes Closet and donation activity. Volunteers are expected to be flexible in their work and to engage with our participants in a positive manner.

Clothes Closet volunteers will work mostly unsupervised in our Clothes Closet locations.

Ideal Candidate

This role is great for someone who is positive, resourceful and energetic. Volunteers should be able to assess the requirements of the Clothes Closets and be committed to empowering teen parents to succeed.

Time Commitment

3 to 4 hours one day per week for a minimum of six months. Shifts must be during daytime working hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
