From conception to age two—the first 1,000 days—a child’s brain develops faster than at any other time in life. Every sound, smile, and connection helps build more than one million neural pathways every second. The next 1,000 days, from ages two to five, are just as important. These years set the stage for language, relationships, and readiness to learn.
When parents have the right support during these early years, their children are more likely to grow up healthy, emotionally secure, and ready to thrive.
At Terra, we walk alongside teen parents by meeting them where they’re at and helping them build a strong foundation for their children’s future.
Your donations make this possible through:
When teen parents are supported, their children thrive. When children thrive, communities grow stronger.
Every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy, strong, and full of potential. You can make that possible today.
Laura Haynes’ connection to Terra Centre began nearly four decades ago when she became a teen parent at 18. Through Terra’s supportive programs, she found the stability, confidence, and encouragement she needed to complete high school and pursue post-secondary education. The community she discovered at Terra helped her build a strong foundation for herself and her daughter.
Today, Laura is a nonprofit leader and long-time community volunteer, serving as a mentor with Girl Guides of Canada and an advocate for families through her work with Autism Edmonton. A former Terra Board and Capital Campaign Committee member, Laura embodies the lasting impact of early supports for teen parents. Her story demonstrates how the right support at the right time can strengthen families and shape brighter futures for children.
Teen parents want what every parent want, for their children to have a promising future. Your gift helps ensure that children have the nurturing care, stability, and opportunities they need in their most important years.
