Each year, Terra Centre hosts Deep Roots, our annual donor appreciation event, to celebrate the people who make our work possible, our generous community of supporters. Deep Roots is a heartfelt reminder of what happens when a community invests in the potential of young families.

This year, we gathered together to reflect on the impact our donors have made across Terra’s programs and to witness how those contributions change lives. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of scholarships to nine Terra participants who are continuing their post-secondary education. Each recipient shared their goals and dreams for the future, offering powerful reminders that the right support at the right time can change the course of a family’s story.

Through your generosity, young parents are pursuing careers, gaining confidence, and building brighter futures for themselves and their children. The scholarships, resources, and encouragement provided through Terra are made possible because of you, our community of support that believes in potential.

Deep Roots gives us the opportunity to say thank you in person, and to recognize the lasting difference you make in the lives of young parents and their children. Together, we are helping families grow strong and rooted in possibility.

I decided for a better life for me and my son, I have to go and get well educated. I knew that I had a better chance of getting a job with a steady income that would allow me to also be a parent to my son. My wishes are simply that I will build bright future for myself and son which is why I chose this route for my post secondary.

I chose criminology because of my lived experiences and my community’s struggles with the justice system. That inspired me to learn how the system works, so I can be part of creating change. Criminology combines my love for learning with my passion for helping people. It’s also a stepping stone to law school, where I plan to amplify Indigenous voices and fight for fair treatment and justice.

I was inspired by  Terra Early Childhood Educators at Braemar School. They were so kind and treated me with respect. I chose I was raised as the oldest of 5 and have always taken on a “parent” role. I have always loved children. I have thought about working in a childcare since I was a child and it has always stuck. It has many possibilities and opportunities. I know it’s the right choice for me.
