“Terra was there for me and gave me the support I needed exactly when I needed it. Leaving everything behind to build a life for me and my child was the best decision I could have made.”
-Ally, Terra participant
Ally never expected to become a parent at 16. Living in a small Alberta town, she felt scared and uncertain about her future when she found out she was pregnant. When a family friend told her about Terra, Ally made the bold decision to move to Edmonton on her own to access the support she needed. That choice changed everything.
At Terra, Ally found a welcoming community that surrounded her with support. She participated in our pregnancy and prenatal classes and we connected her with housing options, financial assistance, and high school completion programs. She learned the skills she needed to be the best parent she could be while working toward her personal goals. Ally says that Terra gave her hope and showed her a path to success she hadn’t thought possible.
Terra’s wrap-around services don’t stop with pregnancy. For Ally, our on-site childcare at Braemar School, was a game-changer. Knowing her son Jasper was getting nutritious meals and developing important skills with our highly engaged childcare team allowed her to focus on finishing school. Today, she still lives in the safe, affordable housing we helped her secure, and she continues to receive occasional check-ins from our mental health team to ensure she’s thriving.
Today, Ally is an electrical apprentice, working toward her journeyman certification in a trade she loves. Her son Jasper is a healthy, happy three-year-old. Although being a young parent has its challenges, Ally is confident and proud of how far she’s come—and she is grateful for the support of Terra and people like you.
