In the fall of 2023, we launched the Baby Bag Project to ensure our support team had a consistent and neatly packaged set of resources ready to share with participants who were expecting. Before this initiative, bags were pieced together using items from our clothes closet and donation room. While this approach worked, it was often inconsistent. With the generosity of donors, we’ve created a steady supply of curated baby bags, ready to provide meaningful support to new and expecting parents.

In the first year and a half, we’ve distributed about 80 baby bags thanks to the generosity of donors like The Host Lions Club, Hearts of Blue at Alberta Blue Cross, The Canadian Progress Club Edmonton South, The Stobbe Family, and other individual supporters. The Host Lions Club, in particular, has continued to champion this initiative and will fund 30 additional bags for early 2025.

These curated bags represent community care and encouragement. They remind parents-to-be that their baby is valued and that they are not alone on this journey. Opening the bag is a tangible reminder to an overwhelmed parent that there are people in the community rooting for their success.

The Baby Bag Project also strengthens relationships. For participants, the bags spark important conversations with Terra’s support team about the joys and challenges of parenthood. Items in the bags serve as conversation starters about the resources available through Terra and the importance of building a strong support system around their growing family.

By fostering connections between participants, Terra, and the wider community, these baby bags are more than just packages of essentials—they’re a symbol of hope and encouragement during one of life’s most transformative moments.
