Job Overview: 

In partnership with Family Resource Networks (FRNs) and their communities, the Expanding Hope program involves developing and implementing an innovative service delivery model to provide access to services and supports that address the unique needs of young families across Alberta. As a part of the Expanding Hope program team, this position provides virtual supports and services directly to young families across Alberta and works with the Children and Family Services funded Family Resource Networks and other community stakeholders, to build their capacity to serve expecting and parenting youth. The role works at both the individual participant level, as well as the systems level to expand and leverage services to meet the needs of young families throughout Alberta.

Job Conditions:  

This is a full time (35 hours/week) with flexible hours Monday through Friday. Some evening work will be required based on needs of program.

The position is located at Terra West, located at 10320-146 Street NW, Edmonton.


Key responsibilities: 
 

Organizational Commitment:

  • Ambassadorship: Serve as an ambassador and champion of Terra Centre for Teen Parents by upholding its mission, vision, values, policies, strategic goals, and code of honor.
  • Ethical Compliance: Adhere to Terra Centre’s policies and procedures and the professional code of ethics of applicable professional associations.
  • Professional Development: Engage in individual supervision, team/agency meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Administrative Duties: Complete accurate and timely administrative tasks including data collection, database input, participant documentation, and monthly statistical reporting using Terra’s Microsoft database. Collect outcomes measures data and participate in evaluation activities as required.

Community Engagement:

  • FRN Knowledge: Develop a strong working knowledge of the FRN network.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with program staff, FRNs, and other community stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Training and Presentations: Develop and facilitate presentations and training materials for service providers on the unique needs of young families.
  • Gap Identification: Identify gaps in services and communicate these findings to the program manager.
  • Coaching: Provide coaching for FRNs to support their capacity building efforts to deliver effective services to young families.


Participant Support:

  • Navigation Services: Provide short-term navigation services to young families ages 21 and under, using a strength-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach.
  • Support Networks: Offer support and services to natural support systems of adolescent parents (e.g., grandparents, siblings, foster parents) and facilitate access to resources.
  • Referrals: Provide supported referrals and complete assessments and surveys with participants to inform service delivery.
  • Child and Youth Development: Knowledge of child/youth development and child-parent attachment
  • Awareness: Understanding and knowledge of the issues pregnant and parenting young people face

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the program’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Education: Degree or diploma in a human services field (ex: social work, child and youth care, human ecology, and psychology).
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in partnership work and collaboration. Experience working with youth, with an in-depth understanding of the needs and issues related to youth exposed to vulnerable life circumstances.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge and experience practicing within Indigenous worldview, strengths-based, social-ecological, trauma-informed, and attachment frameworks are considered assets.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using virtual platforms for delivering services (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet). Knowledge and experience with Office 365 and its programs (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forums).
  • Experience in Rural Settings: Previous experience working in a rural setting is an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Other requirements:  

  • A clear Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • A clear (or Director approved) Driver’s Abstract 
  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 1 million liability insurance, available for regular use
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Compensation: The starting salary for the position is $45,000 – $47,857   

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed with gifted days between Christmas day and New Years.
