WHY LUNCH MATTERS?

  • Providing consistent lunches can alleviate financial and mental stress for our young parents.
  • Proper nutrition and regular meals are linked to cognitive function and academic performance.
  • A guaranteed lunch helps ensure that pregnant and breastfeeding mothers can meet their increased caloric needs without impacting their limited budgets.

Our young moms face daily challenges and your support can help ensure that having a hot and healthy lunch isn’t one of them.

About our Lunch Program

At Braemar School, Terra supports pregnant and parenting teen moms who are completing their high school education. For many of our mothers, a healthy lunch is not always guaranteed. With limited resources, our moms often skip lunch to ensure they have a meal for their child.

Recognizing the importance of proper nutrition on brain development, prenatal and postnatal health and mental wellness, we are working to ensure our moms have a healthy, nutritious lunch at school. It may be the most substantial meal some of our moms have all day.

The Braemar School Lunch Program is an engaging and meaningful group volunteer activity that can make a real difference in the lives of teen moms in Edmonton. We are currently seeking volunteers to help us expand our lunch program.

Volunteer Opportunity
  • This is a group volunteer opportunity for 2 – 4 people.
  • Your group will prepare a hot, nutritious and balanced meal to serve to our moms during their lunch hour at Braemar School (9359 67A Street, Edmonton). Meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen.
    • Groups with no access to a commercial kitchen are welcome to use the kitchen at Braemar School to prepare their meal in time for 11:30 a.m. service.
  • Groups will be responsible for setting up the meal, serving the meal to our moms and tidying up after.
  • The meal should be healthy, balanced and include a protein, starch and vegetables.
Time Commitment

Groups must be available to serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Braemar School. This is a one-time volunteer opportunity, however we welcome groups who would like to serve lunch on an ongoing basis.
