Terra relies on volunteers, financial and in-kind donations to offer services and support our teen parents.
At Terra, our specialized team tailors programs and services to meet the needs of each teen parent. Always safe, never judgemental. Learn more about what we have to offer our young families.
Terra Centre for Teen Parents is committed to helping young parents achieve educational success. We recognize that our participants often continue into post-secondary studies to further their educational and career possibilities.
That’s why we would like to introduce you to Lisa McKinley, our new Post High School Transition Facilitator! It’s a big title for an important role. Lisa works with participants who are pursuing post-secondary studies and who want ongoing support. Lisa was an Educational Support Worker for Terra working at our site at Braemar School and is experienced in assisting participants to set and achieve their goals, connect with community resources and manage the changing demands of parenthood.
In her new role, Lisa is excited to be working with participants as they transition to the next step in their life. She will work with both young moms and dads as they learn to navigate their lives after high school, whether it is pre-employment, trades, college or University. Lisa works with each participant to determine their goals and the type of support they require – everyone’s path is different and she loves that!
Every work day looks a little different for Lisa.
She has already spent time at the University of Alberta supporting a participant through the orientation process and getting settled into classes as they began their school year this September. She is also hard at work developing a series of presentations for Terra participants and alumni that focus on understanding post-secondary institutions in Edmonton, finding funding options and getting the most out of Open House visits. She was also busy in August making connections with a variety of programs including Advancing Futures, Women Building Futures and various post-secondary institutions.
We encourage young parents who have been connected to Terra (and who are attending a high school program) to reach out to Lisa to learn more about how she can assist you in taking the next steps in your educational journey! You can email her at: LMcKinely@terracentre.ca.
We’re located at 9930 106 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta. We are open 8:30-4:30 Mon-Fri.
