We’re fortunate to have the support of different businesses and organizations in our community. Bennett Jones has been working with Terra to recognize and celebrate key milestones in our young families’ lives. Their fundraising committee selected Terra as their 2019 charity of choice and their generosity has already made an impact in the lives of our families.

Some of our newest moms at Braemar School were treated to a special baby shower recently. A small group of Bennett Jones employees planned and hosted this annual spring event, enabling us to provide a unique and meaningful experience for moms who otherwise would not have this opportunity. In addition to providing food, games and prizes, they volunteered at the event and created a lovely afternoon that won’t soon be forgotten. Each mom also received a generous gift bag of baby essentials courtesy of Alberta Blue Cross’ Hearts of Blue.

Shortly after, Bennett Jones helped celebrate our Braemar high school graduates by contributing $1,000 towards a graduation lunch in June. Approximately 45 students attended this event to mark an important accomplishment in their busy lives. For many students, this was a goal they did not believe they would reach and many were touched by this generous gesture of support from the community and Braemar and Terra staff.

“Over the year, I see our young moms come to school blurry-eyed and exhausted, having been up with a fussy baby multiple times in the night. Some arrive after taking two or three buses and in the winter, their stroller wheels are caked in snow. They give hugs and kisses to their children before heading off to class. For some of them, Braemar is one of many schools that they have attended in their lives and simply coming to school regularly is a new experience. As their support team at the school, we see their growth, their dedication, their resiliency and we don’t want this moment—this achievement—to be lost in the demands of their everyday life,” explains Allison O’Grady, Manager, Services for Educational Achievement.

“To be seen, to have your successes noticed and celebrated, sends a message to our moms that we hope they carry with them long after graduation is done: We see you. And you are amazing.”
