Roles and Responsibilities
The Board of Directors is a group of community citizens who are elected as board members. The board is responsible for policy making and setting program standards and priorities for Terra.

Current Members
Jim Klingle – Chair
Jim Klingleis a Partner in Emerging Directions Consulting Ltd., an 11 year old Alberta-based incorporated firm providing planning, research, and evaluation services to nonprofit and government organizations. He has previously served as a board member with Terra, Connect Society, the Edmonton Community Loan Fund, and Boyle McCauley Health Centre. Jim holds a Master’s Degree in European Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree In History and English from the University of Alberta. He has been a Board member with Terra since 2008.
DeAnn Hunter – Vice Chair
DeAnn works in the Executive Office of Alberta Health Services as the Executive Associate to the Chief Financial Officer. DeAnn has spent the majority of her career managing the operations of executive and board offices. She has extensive experience in board governance, issues management, project management, and strategic planning.
A firm believer in community service, DeAnn is Vice Chair of the Terra Centre board and co-chairs the Building Committee as Terra embarks on a capital campaign. DeAnn is also a board member with Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton (BGCBigs) and currently chairs their Governance Committee. Prior to joining BGCBigs, DeAnn was a Big Sister for 10 years. She also played an active role in the merger of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area and Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton in 2011. It was the largest merger of its kinds in the not-for-profit sector in Canada.
DeAnn’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Law from Carleton University (1998) and a Master, Business Administration (MBA) from Royal Roads University (2009).
Barbara Hoff-Morin – Secretary
Barbara retired from her position as a Human Resources consultant with the Federal Public Service after 38 years of working in three different departments. She began her career with the Public Service after attending Terra and completing high school as a teen mother in 1974. Barbara furthered her education from the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta in Public Administration and Human Resources Management, and also obtained her designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) in the Province of Alberta. Barbara served as a Board Member while attending Terra in the 70’s, once again in the 90’s, and has been with the board for the past six years supporting the growth of Terra as they continue with the challenges of young women and men in raising their children with confidence while furthering their own education in school and in life. Barbara values the commitment Terra has to the community and appreciates their vision and strength, adapting to the changing needs of youth.
Edwin Radke – Treasurer
Edwin is a Chartered Accountant and operates an accounting practice in the City of Edmonton. He has a Bachelor’s of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. Edwin sits on the Board of one other local non-profit organization and, as a new father, is committed to supporting young parents.
Barbara Dussault – Board Member
Barbara holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Alberta. She has a passion for supporting others and her career has focused on management and leadership in the fields of education, human services and health care. Barbara is also a Mediator having completed her training with the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society. Emanating from her love of education as well as a desire to build healthy relationships, Barbara, together with her husband, has been teaching Marriage Preparation for 16 years. They have much to share as their relationship began as teen parents; they now have two adult children. Barbara’s career, learning and volunteer activities are balanced with time for family and friends, including entertaining and attending the symphony, as well as reading, ballroom dancing, walking and cross stitch. Barbara strongly believes in Terra’s mission of empowering teen parents to succeed.
Erik Holmlund – Board Member
Erik is a business system consultant in Edmonton. He has a B.Sc from the University of Alberta in Environment and Conservation Science and a Master of Engineering from the University of New Brunswick. Erik has volunteered for and supported various community organizations including Kids Up Front, the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Doctor’s Without Borders and Santa’s Anonymous. As parents to their three young children Zach, Dania and Callie, Erik and his wife Ashley firmly believe in supporting young parents achieving their educational and family goals.
Fran Ross – Board Member
Fran Ross is the Vice President Communications and Community Engagement for Covenant Health. Fran’s career in communications spans a range of roles—including journalism, marketing, organizational communications, and consulting in both the public and private sector. In her current role she is responsible for strategic communications and community engagement programs for Covenant Health–including internal and external communications, public and media relations, community relations, volunteer services, telecommunications and web communications. She is a strong supporter of Terra’s mission and its values-based approach to building a community for pregnant and parenting teens. Prior to her work in health care, she was Director of Marketing for the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Journalism, and is currently enrolled in the Executive MBA program at Royal Roads University. She also currently serves as Board Chair for Cantilon Choirs in Edmonton.
Jennifer Jennax – Board Member
Jennifer is a Certified Management Consultant and currently works for the City of St. Albert as the General Manager of Corporate Strategic Services. She has an MBA and a Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Mathematics from the University of Alberta. Jennifer is Past President of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta. She graduated from a high school for teen mothers in Ontario in 1989. Jennifer strongly believes that with a little support and guidance young mothers can become very successful. She joined the Terra Board to help contribute to the success of young parents.
Nazir Kassamali – Board Member
Nazir is a Chartered Accountant and a Management Consultant. After twenty years of progressive experience at a senior managerial level with Alberta Government, Nazir joined Deloitte Consulting as a senior consultant and provided expertise in business process management and in implementing enterprise resource planning systems to various clients in North America with focus on Governments, Universities, Hospitals and non-profit organizations. Currently, Nazir is working as an independent consultant. He completed a two-year voluntary international assignment, from 2006 to 2008, as the Director of Finance and Administration with a newly established University of Central Asia which was founded in 2000 by the governments of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, and His Highness the Aga Khan. It is the world’s first internationally chartered institution of higher education. Nazir has volunteered with various non-profit organizations such as United Way as a departmental campaign chairperson, Aga Khan Foundation Canada as a walk-a-thon fund raising coordinator and as the President of the Royal Gardens Community League in Edmonton.
